With the new year comes more chances to save on a variety of goods and services, from movies to running shoes to antiques to food and beveridges.
Herberger Lunch Time Theater
Instead of watching pet videos or perusing Buzzfeed during lunch, soak up some culture for just $6. The Herberger Theater Center showcases the work of emerging companies three times a week, and you can bring your own lunch or pre-order a meal from the caterer. Each show is 45 minutes. You can also get a preview of each week's performance the Monday night of opening week.
Details: Doors open at 11:40 a.m., shows start at 12:10 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for $6. Preview is 7 p.m. on Monday nights, with $3 admission. Check calendar for exact dates. Kax Stage, Herberger Theater Center, southeastern corner of Van Buren and Third streets. 602-252-8497, herbergertheater.org.

$2 movies on Tuesdays
Pollack Tempe Cinemas offers second-run movies for $3 a ticket — $2 on Tuesdays. That alone is a steal. But throw in the autographed posters, stand-up figures and other memorabilia in the lobby and it's kind of like a quick visit to a movie museum. That, and "Guardians of the Galaxy" for 2 bucks, makes it worth the trip.

Phoenix Film Festival discount tickets

The Phoenix Film Festival's reputation as a favorite among filmmakers is growing, and it's a great place to catch movies before the buzz begins. (The festival screened "Boyhood" months before it opened in theaters.) The festival doesn't start till March 26, but if you act fast, you can get a deal on passes. Until Wednesday, Jan. 7, VIP passes are going for $169.18 instead of the usual $250; festival passes are $85.08 (usually $125); and flex passes are $27.90 (usually $40). But don't delay.
