Years ago, in
every business there was a sign in the window that stated “We have the right to
refuse service to anyone.” This sign was
not based on any particular “type” of person.
It was to allow the owner of the business to insure that his building or
room was a safe and hospitable place for his customers to enjoy their stay,
service or meal. If someone entered who
was intent on disturbing the peace of others’, they were asked to leave. My Father owned a restaurant and I never
heard him speak of a particular type of person he wouldn’t serve and I don't remember him ever refusing anyone. He
didn’t know, and didn’t want to know their personal habits, likes or dislikes,
religious beliefs or sexual persuasion.
His interest was serving the best meal in town to as many customers as
he could and held that his and their personal life was their own business. If
people enter a business and are not treated properly, they should cease doing
business with that establishment; hence competition in the marketplace. And the store owner should make it his
business to be a gracious host to his customers to encourage future business
from all.
Simple, treat
others the way you wish to be treated.
